蘇步青(1902-2003)是二十世紀的大數學家，專門微分幾何。在日本留學時期，他發現四次（三階）代數錐面，被稱為「蘇錐面」，影響深遠。
他生於淅江省平陽縣的一個農村，家貧，於放牛時站在私塾窗前聽書，很快便背誦《三字經》和《百家姓》。九歲那年，他父親揭盡全力送他上學以後，每一階段都受到恩師幫忙。1919年，他中學畢業，獲校長出資送他往日本留學。他用了三個月的時間掌握好日文，考入大學。這一份語文的天賦才能，讓他日後精通八種外文。
