Written in My Dream Ouyang Xiu
My flute tunes invite the moon to shine on a thousand hills
The roads a maze with hundreds of flowers bloom in goodwill
Whence our chess game ends the world has changed we know it not
Drinking in leisure does not keep me from pining for home a lot

Tune: Treading On Grass Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072)
Mume blossoms by the roadside are fading
Willow trees near the small bridge greening
Amid warm air and fragrant grass a rider is set to go
The farther he roams the heavier his parting grief grows
On and on like torrents in the spring river flow
Tender guts hurt inch by inch
On her teary face longing eyes are locked in
Against the railing up high she must not lean
To the end of the plain lies the spring hills
Her rider husband is already beyond her view
Tune: Picking Mulberries Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072)
On a light boat pedaled by short oars the West Lake is fair
Crystal water white and clear
Beyond the blue grass appears the long dike
Light music echoes hitter and thither delight
Smooth as a mirror is the lake when no breeze blowing
One feels the boat not moving
Ripples their shimmering flare
Frightened water birds skim over the winding shore
Tune: Picking Mulberries Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072)
Rid of colourful flowers the West Lake stays fair
Scattered red petals everywhere
Catkins fill the air like a mist veil
Wavy willows along rails invite breezes all day
Music and singers gone with visitors
Feeling spring empty
I lower the blinds in vain
A pair of swallows appear returning in drizzling rain
Tune: “Hawthorn Fruit” Zhu Shuzhen* (ca. 1135-1180 CE)
Tr. YK Chan
Last year at Lantern Festival night
Flower mart was lit bright as daylight.
To willow top the moon rising up
I met my rendezvous after dusk.
This year at Lantern Festival night
There still are the same old moon and lights.
Last year’s rendezvous not in sight
My sleeves soaked wet by tears I fight.

Some regard Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072 CE) as the author of this ci.
Tune: Butterfly linger flower tr By S L Kong
Deep deep the mansion and courtyards so deep
Veiled by countless willows waving smoke-like screens
Where her master is roaming on jade saddles and bridles she knows not
Standing in her balcony she seeks his whereabouts seeing naught
Fury gusts and pours rage the late spring dusk
She closed all windows and doors to shut out the evening
But spring stays in her feelings like a vane
Tearfully she asks flowers what to do flowers answer not
Only a flurry of pink petals fly her by past the swing
