A Walk in the Park
On a sunny afternoon in the heart of Chicago, children speed around on bicycles as parents relax under a small, Chinese-style pagoda. Near the pagoda stands an inconspicuous granite bust and inscription dedicated to the park’s namesake. The public site I chose to visit was the Ping Tom Memorial Park situated in Chicago’s Chinatown.

Initially, I was planning to go down to the Humber Bay park; but with the weather forecast of 20% to 30% of precipitation, I switched to go somewhere in the city where the run for shelter was short.
The first time I heard about Ward’s Island was from a co-op student who worked for me back in the 80’s. He lived on Ward’s Island.

一切生物都有需要，獨人有需求。前者是藉以生存和傳衍物種的需要（needs），後者是一種由衝動引生活動的需求（needs）。
心理學用文字述說人心和行為，不論用哪種文字，都局限重重。我特別提出英文單字的need字，譯成中文變為雙字的需要或者需求。誰能說何種文字比較傳意傳神？於此，我們用需求一辭，含意比較寛濶。
心理學的每一學說都由學者創發，說的是人，亦離不開創發學人的狀態，包括他的生長發展背境，他的奮鬥歷程，他的研究心得，以及他的人生觀和宇宙觀。
這篇淺說主要介紹馬斯洛（Abraham Maslow, 1908-1970）的「動機學說」和「需求層次」（Hierarchy of Needs）。我選用兩個主要故事說明。一是史懷德醫生的人生。二是我已故摯友李漢榮(1953_F5)的人生。希望能把事情說得具體透徹。 閱讀全文
