Dear Don:
I have to admit that the ‘Beatles’ at Mirage by Cirque du Soleil is their cream of the crop. Even though at any one time the Cirque has half of dozen shows running concurrently in other casinos/hotels, none of them can hold a candle to this one. The surround sound is so good that what was initially done 50 years ago is really brought back to life in front of the audiences. I like it so much that I’ve seen it three times, the first time over 10 years ago. It remains the most popular and longest-running Cirque show in Vegas. I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who wants to see a good show there.
As I said, not all Cirque shows are great. For instance , the much touted ‘O’ at Bellagio is, I think, over-rated and over-priced. It pales in comparison to ’The House of Dancing Water’ at the City of Dreams in Macau. Both shows are directed by the same guy, Franco Dragone and are built around the same theme – water. The latter, however, is much more spectacular and commands a much higher level of difficulty. The worst one that I saw was ‘Elvis’, which put together a mish-mash of ill-fitting songs with no coherence whatsoever or logical storyline. No wonder that show was folded after just one year on stage.
