After dark vapours have oppressed our plains
For a long dreary season, comes a day
Born of the gentle South, and clears away
From the sick heavens all unseemly stains.
The anxious month, relieving from its pains,
Takes as a long-lost right the feel of May,
The eyelids with the passing coolness play,
Like rose leaves with the drip of summer rains.

《放生》
孩子還小時，我花五元錢，在唐人街買了一對小龜給他們玩。小龜很小，孩子的小手掌可以把它拿起來，從這邊拿到那邊，讓小龜在廚房爬行蠕動。小龜有生命，比較起積木玩具，新鮮多了，好玩極了。
小孩子的玩具在我們家，平均二個星期就會玩厭。隨著年齡增長，玩具從小到大。太太把過時玩具存放在一個大紙箱裏，裝滿了，紙箱進車房，再找一個大紙箱擺玩具。
小龜的命運可不同，它們住入了廚房的金魚缸。金魚缸不大，但裡面有石灣假山，有釣魚翁，有南京雨花臺的石頭。沒有金魚。
才幾天，孩子們就無興趣玩龜了。他們要養金魚，我不容許。我想，龜與魚怎可同缸。
小龜找到了好居屋。每天都有人餵食。食物豐富，有冷飯，也有從寵物店買的「龜食」。冬天时候，龜不吃東西，它們喜歡睡眠，動也不動。屋子是要打掃的，我們時常把龜拿出來，清潔金魚缸。

蝸居自負住無愁
牛市熊市無掛慮
贊君知足樂悠悠
【 樓市火熱，不免羨慕蝸牛。斯文豪大蝸牛原產於臺灣，在香港及華南一帶亦有生長，殼直徑可達52mm, 爬行時慢條斯理，優哉游哉。】
