死別已吞聲  We weep when death renders us apart
生別常惻惻  Separation while living wrenches our hearts
江南瘴癘地  The southern country is known for malaria mire
逐客無消息  I grieve having no news from you in exile there

故人入我夢  You entered my dream last night
明我長相憶  Showing you know how much for you I pine
恐非平生魂  Would it be only your soul appearing in my dream
路遠不可測  Since you are now dwelling far in cosmic rims

魂來楓葉青  When your soul comes maple leaves are green
魂返關塞黑  When it departs the frontier would turn dim
君今在羅網  You are now captive in nets wide
何以有羽翼  How could you exercise wings to fly

落月滿屋梁  The moon floods her light over my house beam
猶疑照顏色  Your countenance is shown in the shine it seems
水深波浪闊  Deep at sea where billows widely spread
無使蛟龍得  Not even the dragon knows where you are at
