人生不相見  How often in life we fail to meet
動如參與商  Moving like Orion and Scorpion on separate feet
今夕復何夕  This our night by lucky feats
共此燈燭光  Together by candlelight we sit
少壯能幾時  How many youthful days can we count
鬢發各已蒼  Before grey hairs on our heads mount
訪舊半為鬼  Half our old friends have gone to the underworld
驚呼熱中腸  Finding them under their tombs I did not foresaw
焉知二十載  Never had I expected after two decades
重上君子堂  We would be together in your homestead
昔別君未婚  Unmarried you were when we last parted
兒女忽成行  Today sons and daughters line up your yard
怡然敬父執  They greet me politely as their father
問我來何方  And ask my dwelling place whither
問答乃未已  Even as we continue making conversation
兒女羅酒漿  Foods and wine are in preparation
夜雨翦春韭  Leeks are fetched from the garden while raining
新炊間黃粱  Yellow millets on the stove steaming
主稱會面難  You lament being together is so difficult
一舉累十觴  Raising our cups ten times we drink special
十觴亦不醉  Wines do not make me drunk in ten rounds
感子故意長  Our friendship lasting I happily found
明日隔山嶽  Tomorrow we will be separated by hills again
世事兩茫茫  We will be lost in mundane affairs by then
