In the seventies, some students went to a store in Victory Ave near Pui Ching for their extracurricular activities (mahjong) after school.  Those who are in Toronto are Mahjong ‘Kings’ at our alumni functions.  They assured me they put on the blue blazer of Pui Ching School!!

I think I am the one who is most qualified to talk about the Victory Road Mahjong hideout.
I spent my entire lower 6 year there and God knows only why I did not manage to do well at the A level exams. Sad but true. My late Mom still haunts me every now and then and kicks my ass on this.

原来亚Sir一早已经知到哂我哋啲架步。等我仲以為我哋當年好醒，較脚得神不知，鬼不覺添。不過我哋冇本事，揾唔到件培正褛，唯有躲上花園街一间士多的閣仔開局喇。

Another more efficient way was not to wear any school jacket(and we were not rich enough to buy another blue jacket) , after taken off our school badges and school ties, we could pretend to be Pui Ching Boys (培正仔) or Tai Tung Boys(大同仔). The cockloft at Fa Yuen Street ,the較脚架步  that Edmond mentioned was called ‘蘭亭咖啡室’ and it is still there . I have been taking my wife to have a coffee and egg tarts from time to time, fortunately I’ve never seen any Wah Yan boys there anymore .

Peter Lo & Andrew Kam Cheung Lung went to the states on the IACA (Int’l Air Cadet Exchange) in the summer of 1969 with Fr. Cunningham.  In 1970, Kwan Pak Kin & I were on the exchange, with Mr. Warren Geddes as our escort.  Mr. Geddes later formed ACC –Air Cadet Corps in HK & Air Scouts no longer had the chance to go on the exchange.  But some Wah Yan boys joined ACC & were selected to be on the exchange as well.
For some reason, I don’t remember Peter Lo liked playing MJ.  I also never played on Victory Ave.

勝利道麻雀茶館早應該讓小弟「描形繪影」將情況「弾」出來。放在「華仁的回憶」。要勁過老舍的「茶館」。
阿John 穿大同校服，Edmond, 史提分陸穿培正校服。陳當穿玻衫。打快四圈。Pius 斯文在旁邊觀戰。作鎮定學人食煙。
史提分陸密食當三番，搞到阿 John 大爆粗口，聞者駭然。陳當驚嘆。如此流利順暢的廣州粗口，在祖國未曾聽過。
打完埋單，Edmond 欠 史提分陸八十皮。而今未還。

多謝Steve仲記得‘蘭亭咖啡室’。想當年在此架步，除咗打麻雀，最主要還是十三張。因為收檔容易，有時較脚一兩堂都掂。那时Steve最好手氣。时常唔係手揸例牌，就係二度4条或同花順，多数輸到我同魏徵旦攤攤腰。仲要赢咁多都未請過我哋食嘢╰_╯。

無錯, 記得當年在 ‘蘭亭’ Lunch Hour 聚會 (上中文堂當阿 sir談 及王羲之蘭亭集序時我們都會心微笑), 我們都是在閣樓玩十三張,當年還未興 鋤大D 。除了Edmond, 魏徵旦和我外, 其他同學們還有大埔仔李昌華, Eddie Chan陳熊森,胡可禮,鍾建邦班長,當年走堂比較少,但  Eddie 都是計算到差不多學校上堂時間才話最後3鋪，所謂一架的士坐唔哂，要截兩架的士,而且為了避開何校長之耳目，我們之的士會停在canteen 有瓦遮頭的地方，在牆角偷看何sir 是否埋首工作，我們便分二人一組衝上5D課室。
後記：Back to real life，最近一次麻雀聚會( 29/12/12)，阿John 和我都是輸家，可能David Ho在澳門潛修，他是贏家。而阿John牌品好好，並沒有阿陳當所說之大爆順暢廣州粗口，只是搖頭輕歎。

其實阿John次次打牌都有爆粗，不過對像不同，上場我不是大贏家，所以唔係目標！
講到中學打牌當然不止蘭亭一檔，5A班也有竹林七賢，其包括我、大孖、亞石、潘堅、阿展，老鬼及亞遠，而檔口則有兩個–大孖科發道府上或是潘堅表哥深水(甫)個架步。走堂當然會有，但機會唔多，何Sir更唔為意，所以我唔講就可能變成永遠的秘密！
現在大孖已作古人，能再聚合餘下六賢同檯開局已是殊不容易了！

These fond memories are here with me everyday. I used to think if there is an inter-school Mahjong tournament, I would definately be WYK’s team captain but I now realised that the luck element perhaps played a bigger role in deciding who will win. Steve and David are both very good players and I am really looking forward to have a game with Dominic N.
