年年此夜倍纏綿
恨欠良方矯政偏
閃閃燭光私願許
低吟宛委問青天

Tonight, Sadness
Each year, this night brings sadness
Sadder still, no answer lights our way
Flickering candles mirror our uncertainty
Again, I ask the heavens to explain.

Année après année, cette nuit redouble mon tourment.
Regrettant l’absence de solution aux erreurs du passé,

A Capriccio
A new holiday in early summer,
welcome, June the 4th
long-parted friends together, joyful ,
remembering the years of hiding … wait!
And …. no more wine for me!
(Note – The first line refers to the epilogue of my poem Day of Grief written in June 1989:
« In years to come, some child of yours may say,
‘Why is it June the fourth’s a Holiday?’»

Un caprice
En ce début d’été, chacun se réjouit d’une journée de congé.
Des amis séparés depuis longtemps se congratulent
Et évoquent en souriant leurs années de clandestinité.
Attention, attention ! Il ne s’agit hélas que d’un poème
composé après plusieurs coupes de vin !
(Note – Le premier vers fait allusion à la fin de mon poème Deuil de juin 1989:
« Si un jour un enfant vous demande :
“Pourquoi est-ce férié aujourd’hui?”
Vous lui direz: “Le 4 juin c’est la nouvelle fête des morts,
Incline-toi devant tante, incline-toi devant ton oncle!”
