《Tune: Fragrant Courtyard_ Summer Thoughts》Zhou Bang Yan
In balmy winds young orioles learn to fly
Rains abundant plums thrive
In the mid-day sun the tree spreads round and cool
Surrounding the small plain hills seem nigh
Our clothes wet getting dried on smoky fire
In the quietude people sit while birds make merry
Beyond the red bridge a green stream chatters leisurely
On the rail I lean my mind preoccupied
Identifying myself with the fate of a poet friend in exile
In the tangle of weeds and bamboos
His life condemned in taboo
Year by year I live like a swallow busy
Flying over the distant sea
And returning gladly to nest beneath the old eaves
Why bother with matters external unnecessarily
It is better to drink and rest and be happy
For a weary roamer in southern country
Music from pipes and strings sound dreary
Where the banquet ends in songs
I put up pillows in a comfortable bed
Whence drunk I can rest my body and head
