It was 32 degrees Centigrade.\u00a0 In the city with its air-con exhaust, vehicle exhaust and the stale air trapped between the tall rises, the heat would be unbearable.\u00a0 But not out here\u2026.in Tai O, the remote fishing village on the far west end of Lantao Island.<\/p>\n

Monday\u2026.still quite a number of tourists, but not at all packed like in the malls in town.<\/p>\n

People came here mostly for the Venice of Hong Kong.\u00a0 Seldom would they wander into the village where the locals dwell.\u00a0 But I did, together with quite a few others who were carrying cameras to pick our shots.<\/p>\n

Life amidst the stilt dwellings was tranquil.\u00a0 The alleys were quiet with only people like me and other photographers strolling by.\u00a0 There might be an occasional bike zipping along.<\/p>\n

The fishermen stayed indoors away from the scorching sun.\u00a0 For those that lounged outside, their pastime was to gawk at the passers-by.\u00a0 They looked worry-free, obviously oblivious to the dropping stock market.<\/p>\n

Life was simple for the locals\u2026basic furnishings inside the tin shacks, some x-handed couches on a stilt deck that served as a living room, salted fish hanging from the lines to get sun-dried.<\/p>\n

\u201cUmmm, yummy!\u00a0 Cooking?\u00a0 I am hungry.\u201d\u00a0 I uttered to an elderly lady sitting outside her hut waiting for the evening meal to be served.\u00a0 \u201cYou can stay for dinner,\u201d she responded.\u00a0 How friendly!<\/p>\n

This is the joy of getting out to the country-side\u2026.and singleton as well.\u00a0 No-one governs my pace of travel\u2026nor my thoughts.<\/p>\n
