It\u2019s just like a green mountain that&#8217;s only vaguely veiled in fog,<\/p>\n<p>Or a meandering emerald stream that can\u2019t be block&#8217;d!<\/em><strong><\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<br \/>\n*The \u2018red bean\u2019, \u7ea2\u8c46 <em>hongdou<\/em>, here really is the jequirity bean, which is produced by the leguminous jequirity plant (<em>Abrus precatorius<\/em>, cf. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abrus_precatorius\" title=\"Jequirity bean\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abrus_precatorius<\/a>) and used often in Chinese poetry as a love token\u2014\u76f8\u601d\u8c46 <em>xiangsi dou<\/em>, the love bean, e.g. \u738b\u7ef4 (701-761) Wang Wei\u2019s poem \u76f8\u601d Xiangsi.<\/p>\n<p>  <em>Xiangsi<\/em> \u76f8\u601d denotes a special yearning for a loved one, from whom the lover is separated.  Cao\u2019s \u7ea2\u8c46\u8a5e HongDou Ci (Song of the Red Bean) is from his famed <em><strong>Dream of Red Mansions<\/strong><\/em>.  It was written as a poem for the protagonist, \u8d3e\u5b9d\u7389 Jia Baoyu, to sing after he was separated from his lover, \u6797\u9edb\u7389 Lin Daiyu.
