To Magistrate Han of Yang Zhou
Behind the green hills water flows far
With autumn leaving the south grass is yet to wither
Whence the twenty four bridges in town aflame by moonshine
Where is your favourite lass whose flute music rendition so fine
Message To Han Cho, the Yangzhou Magistrate Du Mu
Verdant mountains and the blue water are dimly seen.
At autumn’s end on riverbanks the grass is still green.
On the Twenty-Four-Arch-Bridge under the clear moon,
A girl, fine as jade, is teaching someone the flute’s tune.
