Two Appearances of the Winter Sun 余晃英

Two Appearances of the Winter Sun                  余晃英

The incessant rain suddenly ceases, winter sun makes an appearance. Touched, I compose the following lines.

Cold rain abruptly halts; cold wind stops dead.
Cloud banks, coloured three ways, yield grey, white and blue.
A silver lining decks the cumulus clouds,
Sunshine breaks free to pour forth to Earth.
If your body has not been shaken by chill,
How do you know the caress of winter warmth?

The Sudden Appearance of the Sun Brings Joy, and These Lines

Winter sun suddenly charges forth, and the world is replete with joy.
Over miles and miles, light clouds float on a sea of blue.
Dark haze swept away, the sky opens.
The cold of winter is replaced by a measure of warmth.
Tiny buds fall into the arms of the warming breath;
Grass, with an inkling of new life, quietly lengthens its blades.
O, what alternation of dark and bright, as in human affairs.
Light is to be sought where things appear black.
Go find where spring shows its first signs,
And take bold steps towards brightness.
